The following is a semi recap plus review plus opinion on the specific episodes, emphasising more on the review than the recap. Spoilers alert and highly opinionated. Read at your peril.
Oh dear so many versions. Hunan version lar, uncut version lar, some combined 2 episodes lar, some got fast fast 1 extra episode lar, some labeled as this series but is something else lar. Right now I am following the uncut version, whatever that means.
Oh I so love this series right now. Handsome men, pretty girls, all acting rather good, I am beginning to find the worm cute. I know the story will go tragic but not too soon. It has the hallmarks of inconsistency, so happy so lucky so bad luck so tragic, in that order. Bai Zhihua is a harsh immortal, Hua Qiangu is a girl who never gives up, no matter the shit thrown at her. I already pity her. The world will go against her and I am sure we will all wonder why? Why bully this poor girl? Well this series you can divide between 2 men;
Handsome men - all loves HQG
Ugly men - all hates her
There! Shall say no more until I watch episode 7 but I really love how she held onto BZH from falling from the sword, a bit too long as if she is taking advantage of him and does pointedly asked "You're stabilised now, please let go" or something like that.
Not to say some scenes aren't silly, like the kung fu which so far to me is not distinctive or beautifully filmed, the graphics is just very bad and the I think 5 immortals flying to fight whilst posing reminds me of Big Hero 6 sorta poses. What saves these episodes from being ridiculous is the acting and the story. Everything else is not doing it any favours.
I just found out Bai Zi Hua's Hua is "Painting" or "Drawing". Oh wait till the name becomes Cantonese version and I bet it will sound like "Eh so ugly one!!' Like Hua Qiangu will become I think Fa Tsin Guat??
