EPISODE 37

The following is a semi recap plus review plus opinion on the specific episodes, emphasising more on the review than the recap. Spoilers alert and highly opinionated. Read at your peril.

Zihua, to you am I not even worth your attention like any Changliu's disciple? At least to them you have some sense of responsibility. Me? I am but a burden to you. Do you know, for someone with such a  big heart that loves the world, you are actually the most heartless being. Maybe if it is about HQG you will react a bit differently. In this episode, absolutely everyone appears. Seriously, like EVERYONE. Kinda jam packed with people. But can be summed up to;

7. SXM's pledge
8. NMT's insistence
9. Mo Yan's loyalty

And finally we meet the Demon God. Are you excited? Don't be too excited because this is one episode I feel like slapping HQG.

Recap!!





BZH awakes and looks radiantly beautiful. ZX looks sad and BZH asks where is HQG and so ZX told the lie HQG told her to say; that she stole the deity items for SQM and she entered Changliu on the order of SQM. BZH immediately knew it was a complete lie and told ZX that and ZX was shocked because BZH said he had checked her background before she entered Changliu. Errr has anyone forgotten that BZH knew HQG as Mo Bing? He knew when she knew SQM and she also knew SQM had been seeing HQG. And ZX said she cured him by making the antidote and HQG saw her and begged her to use the antidote on BZH. BZH knows it is also a lie but he says thanks coldly and rushes to find HQG because HQG is as always, in mortal danger.  Never a time she is not in mortal danger that requires Shifu's assistance. ZX was bitterly hurt was BZH's cold goodbye and so said what she said in my chosen quote. But she is wrong. BZH does care about her. Remember how he worries about her many episodes ago? His promise to lead her to the path of good? Etc? Except it is a different sort of care and seriously, ZX should snap out of this whole "BZH LOVES HQG AND NOT MEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!" thing. It is getting seriously one note.

Anyway BZH flew away as ZX cried her heart out and same time, HQG flew into the void in the space that translation says is a cave but I prefer to call it Void Space. Because it is in the sky. And once she is inside, it is dark with glowing plants like this..

And I was like... AVATAR? Yeap, Avatar but cheaper effects. It's not so bad because worse is to come.

She found a bundle of something that can talk and with a drop of her blood (and she seriously needs to think twice before using her blood on anything!), the bundle unraveled and it was a young man!

Yeap, this is the guy where the power resides and you can say he is Demon God. Or would be Demon God because he is a really nice guy. HQG realised she will have to kill him but poor dude was crying that ...

a. he has been waiting for her to release him, or someone to release him, not specifically HQG

b. he has been alone in this dark dark dark world where there is only one moon and perpetually in darkness

c. hence he has no friends, no family, not even a pet, which I guess that is why he parked himself on a tree and grew roots. Don't ask me why.

d. he is very very lonely and he is aware outside people wanna kill him. Again don't ask me how he knew.

And HQG as usual pitied him and felt they were so alike and that she was lucky she met Mo Bing who became her shifu and so she pledged to be his friend and his shifu and to teach him right from wrong because she is convinced the power within him knows no good nor evil, only the person who wields it does and she wants to lead him on the path of good so that he will harness his power to use for good.

Oops... bad call.

And she even named him Nan Xian Yue and nicknamed him Xiao Yue and he was so happy he was jumping with joy.

Oh no, another bad call. Once you start naming your pet, that's it. Bonded. I wonder did HQG ever thought if she escaped, she too was awaiting punishment. I sometimes feel as smart as HQG is, she is really not street smart. She should have killed the annoying dude.

Pause.

I was disappointed the Demon God is a wimpy man. I know, he is supposed to be a young man but he is NOT a young man. The novel started the Demon God in the form of a baby that grew very fast. Hence HQG's reluctance to kill him. Here he started as perhaps 16 ish. I feel that is a fundamental mistake. The part should go to a kid, perhaps no  more than 12. Because if it is in the form of a young kid, you can see HQG's reluctance and her conviction that the kid can  be taught to use the power for good and you can never kill a kid. That's just wrong. In fact she stayed in the void for 7 days. I see no reason why our Demon God can't be a baby or a kid that grows very fast and by 7th day becomes this young man. After all 7 days in void could be 7 years outside. This is a bloody fantasy story and being fantasy means anything can be written as long as it is reasonable. It is NOT reasonable to start the Demon God at this age. I feel zero affinity and I feel HQG should have done the world a favour and kill him.

Outside BZH arrives and Mo Yan is surprised he is looking well. And this is where this scene gets a bit crowded and rather funny unintentionally. We have like several groups and thanks to DFYQ who is now exposed as the masked guy and no one seems surprised except MXL and we have the standard answer of "I will explain later", they all agreed to wait 7 days which is about the time it takes for the power to grow to fullest power and then reopen the void and someone will go in and get HQG and then destroy the power. Oh and so many beautiful men in this scene. Seriously gorgeous men, even MXL.

First up, the evil guys who aren't that evil. This is the group led by SQM which pledges;

As long as Little Thing can  be saved, I don't mind cooperating with Changliu and the other sects

Ahh but SCQ wanted to take the power and SQM basically shut him up. Priority is his Little Thing.


Ok, next we have MXL who predictably says;

As long as Qiangu can be saved and prevent the Great Desolute Power from forming and destroying all realms, then that is the best

Ok, so another HQG supporter. In fact MXL was the one who said to BZH that must BZH be so heartless and not consider HQG who is inside the void when BZH wanted to destroy the void like NOW and MXL also said he couldn't care now if the power will destroy everyone, must save HQG. Of course BZH's opinion is HQG did a terrible wrong and so even if she had to die like 10,000 times then so be it. I think he actually meant it.

Luckily, DFYQ arrived and gave the plan as I explained above.

But the one with the last word is actually Changliu in the form of BZH who looked emotionless and  basically said;

As long as the Demon God can be destroyed, nothing else is important

See? No HQG inside his sentence. But we all know his mind is spinning on how to save the damsel forever in distress who for 7 days spent the time inside teaching Xiao Yue kung fu, plays chess and what nots. Basically she bonded  big time with our Demon God.

Sigh, not a good sign.

7 days later, and I suppose they all camped there  by the cliff, even NMT helped to reopen the hole in the sky whilst BZH, SQM and DFYQ are all mid air (DFYQ can fly!! Cool!!) and DFYQ flies inside and finds HQG comforting a suddenly rather cold Xiao Yue. Even DFYQ was shocked to find out the power resides in the young man but he takes out a knife and wants to kill Xiao Yue because BZH is coming in soon and BZH won't leave her unpunished but HQG is convinced her shifu will agree with her actions and spare Xiao Yue. Will he? Don't know. Anyway long story short, DFYQ agrees not to kill HQG but knocked her unconscious and tells Xiao Yue to surrender his power to him and Xiao Yue in a moment of desperation after 7 days of education and bonding transferred all his powers to an unconscious HQG and he explained why he did so;

Jie Jie, you can take all my powers, that way you can use my powers to help people!

Idealistic thinking, and in a way not a bad thing.

But in a forum a fan explained his power was accumulated over centuries of evildoing so the power itself is from evil itself. So basically, it is a futile exercise that in the end destroyed HQG. Because she can't control it and everyone will now run after whoever has the power. It is like the Lord Of The Rings and the One Ring dilemma. All of Sauron's power is in the One Ring and people want to possess it but the power corrupts, it can't be tame. That's how I see this power even if the series doesn't explain it at all.'

DFYQ is shocked at what Xiao Yue did but didn't stop him. Once done, BZH arrived and he took out his rarely seen  beautiful sword and told DFYQ who was cradling HQG that he once said he will kill DFYQ if he does bad things.

Anyway the sword...

Beautiful!

DFYQ was at the end of his patience. He looked at BZH and he raged;

You all killed my father 20 years ago. You all never let him go. Now you won't let Gu Tou go!

BZH as usual said;

I did nothing wrong. I will do the same if I am faced with the same question today. Right is right, wrong... is wrong

DFYQ was very angry as he said;

BZH, I didn't lose to you! I lost because in the end I couldn't bring myself to be merciless with Gu Tou. But in the end, you're the one who did the most wrong! Why did Gu Tou stole those devices? For you! You are the cause of all these problems!! And now the power resides in Gu Tou. What are you going to do? You can take the power for yourself and become the most powerful ever and do whatever you want. Or you can kill her. Go on! Kill her!

Yeap! BZH knew why HQG stole the devices! He knew!! Anyway BZH couldn't do it, he couldn't kill HQG and surprisingly he also didn't consider taking the power for himself, to offload her because I think he is thinking way way ahead and told DFYQ to leave which he did. And BZH looked at the STILL unconscious HQG and fans will love what happened next but I feel only sadness for BZH because his need to share her burden when she caused the burden. It shouldn't have been him...

BZH cradled HQG for a very long time. She whispered "Shifu.. shifu" as she was in his loving embrace and BZH sadly said;

I've thought it through. All the wrongs, all the injustices, I will not let you bear the burden alone. Don't worry, Xiaogu

And so he used some special power that translation says is forbidden stuff and sealed her power so that no one can detect it. It is most powerful magic and he also tied himself to her power so that if she ever suffers, so will he, if she ever uses the power, he will know, that whatever burden she will bear, he will share her burden with her.

I feel like crying. HQG! You ruined him! A reader explained this is the reason why he lost his immortality later on. It is not due to the nails punishment, that 64 nails I believe that he took on behalf of HQG even when no one insisted he takes. First he has a death wish. Now he has a Twin syndrome; must share her burden. Anyway, later when she break the seal and became full fledge Demon God herself, that was when his immortality was broken and he became a mortal. Now you must wonder did HQG knew? Yes she did apparently, she was past the point of caring. And here you have this guy whose action speaks volumes, speaks louder than any word can say and this woman wants him to confess his love when his action says quite enough to me. That's why I feel HQG ruined BZH. I like HQG but I feel HQG underestimated how much her own actions hurt him as well. 

Now you might wonder why BZH didn't take the power for himself? I have seen some of the later episodes and I think he knows he will have to punish her and he knows what sort of punishment and the power of the Demon God inside her will help her and so he probably wants her to have that power because he is thinking it will save her in the end. Such consideration, such planning. HQG, how can you ever hate him? Fans, how can anyone say BZH is heartless? He is too merciful!!

Anyway he continued to cradle her after that and told Xiao Yue to show himself and basically said even if he let them go now, the other sects won't. And SQM arrived and wanted to take HQG but BZH wouldn't let him because HQG is his disciple and when SQM attacked, BZH lost his patience and used full power and SQM was hurt. Void was crumbling ....

Outside the other sects urged Mo Yan to close the void but Mo Yan, who may be a walking with a durian stuck in his arse says;

NO! Zihua is still in there! Hold your positions until he is out! And SQM is still inside as well!

And SCQ wanted the power for himself and flew towards the void and NMT said to herself that HQG better stay inside, if not NMT will break her into millions of pieces.

HQG woke up and begged them not to fight and they flew out and HQG again reiterated she will face her punishment willingly. Everyone was shocked to see Xiao Yue. Anyway SQM won't let BZH take HQG away but HQG begged SQM to let her be, that he didn't like killing people and for Liu Xia, he must stop and SQM reluctantly left. Before he did he made a promise to destroy Changliu if BZH kills HQG. In fact SQM was scared HQG will be killed but again HQG repeated the same thing. She is willing. Then MXL said to Changliu 3 elders to let HQG go, since HQG is not a bad person but again HQG looked at MXL and that was that. Then came Yun Yi and at this point I was like please, when is this gonna end? Anyway Yun Yi said HQG is sect leader of Shu Shan but ha! BZH said she is disciple of Changliu and HQG told Yun Yi he is now the sect leader (I think she said this so many times) and that Shu Shan will not do anything in this matter, she do so willingly and Yun Yi nodded reluctantly.

Surprisingly Tang Bao didn't rush forward to hold onto HQG. Strange. And so BZH, HQG, Xiao Yue literally flew away when HQG surrendered herself to her shifu.

Meanwhile, DFYQ was alone, held his mask and he thought to himself he didn't want to do what he did which led to him hurting HQG. Well you had a choice man!! He promised he will save HQG, he will find a way and he will save her! And he threw his mask away. I believe this signals that he has let his hatred go.

Back at Changliu, Mo Yan screamed at BZH that he can't protect HQG anymore but BZH held onto his stance, he will punish her since she is his disciple. This is his way of controlling the out of control situation. Again his head is spinning fast on how best to preserve HQG's life. SXM also says the same thing but also said whatever is BZH's decision, he will support BZH.

MXL couldn't stand it and so barged to Changliu and as Mo Yan told MXL that he may be the emperor of the mortal world. this has nothing to do with him. BZH reiterated his stance but MXL said;

Fine. But if you are to punish Qiangu needlessly, I will use all the might of my empire and I shall see justice is done for Qiangu

Very manly!! Finally  MXL has grown up!

BZH goes to see HQG who is inside the cage with Xiao Yue, Xiao Yue is told to leave and so it was BZH and HQG alone. HQG reiterated her readiness to be punished and he asked her why did she stole the deity items and she reiterated what ZX told BZH and again BZH asked her again the same question and HQG repeated her answer and begged BZH to let Xiao Yue go and that she will bear all responsibilities. BZH snapped;

Do you think this is some responsibility you are capable of shouldering alone?

Sigh... HQG again doomed BZH.

HQG is afraid for Xiao Yue and held onto the hem of his sleeves like she used to but this time it was for dear life and she begged BZH to let Xiao Yue go and BZH looked at her expressionless but his eyes brimming with angry tears (yes there were tears) and he looked hard at her and then pulled back the hem of his sleeves and turned and left and HQG rushed forward and cried;

Shifu! Shifu!

What does she want now? Well, next episode we shall know.

I tell ya, HQG is the classic trouble maker or chinese says Hung Ngan Wo Sui aka female trouble maker!

I know I shouldn't blame her, DFYQ deserves some blame but HQG never weighs her option, she just bulldozes forward like with the case of Xiao Yue. I am also surprised BZH never took on the power from HQG until I remember the coming episodes and suddenly it hit me why.

A lot of people is angry with BZH for not doing enough for HQG but when he sealed her power and promised to bear her burden with her and tied his fate with her sealed powers, I knew BZH has done more than he could. How can anyone say he hasn't done enough? What more could he have done? HQG will do more stuff that will take both of them from the road of no return. It was always BZH the rational one but HQG always the reckless one and in the end her choices will make BZH confront the one question fans just love to ask;

Does BZH love HQG?

I will say at this point, yes but not romantically but his love encompasses many levels that it is so deep, he is willing to cover her recklessness and in doing so, destroy himself. I can see no bigger love than that.

HQG is seriously a trouble maker, even if unintentionally so. Sometimes the best of intentions can kill.

Poor poor BZH.

By the way Wallace Huo was amazing in this episode. His face changed little but his eyes, the pools of tears, his set stubborn lips, everything tells me everyone has misjudged BZH. He is  not heartless. He is in fact the one with the most "heart". And Wallace gave him such subtlety that you will need to watch the 1080p version to appreciate those finer details. This is indeed Wallace's best performance.
